Sri Lankan wins 3 more gold

 

 

Sri Lanka yesterday (Feb. 06) added three more gold to their tally at the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Swimmer Heshan Unamboowe won the men's 100 m backstroke event with a games record.

His timing of 58.98 seconds bettered the previous best of 1 min, 0.11 sec. set in 2006 by compatriot Andrew Abeysinghe.

Sri Lanka's team captain Chaminda Wijekoon claimed gold in the men's 1,500 m event, clocking 4 min, 10.01 sec.

Compatriot P.H. Chamal won the bronze.

The third gold for the island came through Chandrika Subhashini, who finished the women's 200 m in 24.49 sec.

In second place was Sri Lanka's Premila Priyadarshini.

Springer Shehan Ambepitiya finished a close second in the men's 200 m (21.19 sec.) which was won by India?s Najeeb Quaraisi (21.16 sec.)

Nayana Prasad Dharmaratne won silver in the men's long jump by clearing 7.25 m.

Sri Lanka has so far won a total of seven gold at the Dhaka games.
