Sri Lanka wins 4 athletic gold

 

 

Sri Lanka won six gold, four of them in athletics, on the 10th day of the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh yesterday (Feb. 07).

The Sri Lankans won both men's and women's 100 X 4 events - the men clocking 40.03 sec. while the women claiming a timing of 46.34 sec.

In women's 400 m, Chandrika Subhashani won gold with a timing of 54.24 sec.

Priyangika Madhuwanthi claimed the women's high jump by clearing a distance of 1.81 m.

In Karate, J.G. Edward collected a gold for Sri Lanka in the 62 kg category.

The other gold for the day came through swimmer Mineka Karunaratne, who won the women's 100 m breaststroke event.

In the Twenty-20 cricket final, Sri Lanka lost to hosts Bangladesh by six runs.

Chasing 158 for victory, the Sri Lankans were bowled out for 151 runs.

Sri Lanka has so far won 13 gold and occupies the third spot in the medals table behind India and Pakistan.
