Mission accomplished, JHU chief to leave politics

 

 

Chairman of Jathika Hela Urumaya Ven. Kotapola Amarakiththi Thera today (Feb. 08) announced that he was leaving politics for good as his party?s mission to help eradicate terrorism has been accomplished.

Speaking to the media, the prelate said he would resign from the party positions as well as from his seat in parliament.

Ven. Amarakiththi Thera said he would not get involved in any political activity in the future.

The decision has been intimated in writing to party secretary Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera, he said.

He said the JHU had been formed with the intention of helping eradicate terrorism, which has now been achieved.

Two other monk MPs from the party - Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka and Ven. Kolonnawe Sumangala Theras - have also announced that they would leave politics.
