Indian defence minister A.K. Anthony has reiterated the need for a political solution to the Sri Lanka conflict.
The minister made the remark while addressing a Unified Commanders' Conference in New Delhi yesterday (June 25), PTI reported.
He said that for lasting peace within, Colombo needed to backup its military gains against the LTTE with a political devolution package.
That solution should satisfy the aspiration of Tamils within a united Sri Lanka, said the Indian defence minister.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi has called for "unity at least henceforth" among political parties in the state to work for the Tamils not only in Sri Lanka, but all over the world.
"We have no common opinion among us (on the Tamils issue) which has led to what we are witnessing today," he said.
