Feb 5, 2010 3:35 PM · Sri Lanka's top Buddhist prelates have written to president Mahinda Rajapaksa, asking that the safety of Gen. Sarath Fonseka be secured.
In their letter, the Mahanayaka Theras note that the former Army commander had done an immense service to eliminate terrorism.
Dated February 02, it asks that the life of Gen. Fonseka be not made insecure.
It has been signed by Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala, Most. Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha, Most. Ven. Dawuldena Gnanissara and Most. Ven. Weweldeniye Medhalankara Theras.
They also congratulated president Rajapaksa for protecting the island after eliminating terrorism and for his reelection for a second term in office.
