Stumble UponGen. Fonseka to appear before Colombo High Court over white flag case
EnlargeJul 26, 2010 11:45 AM · The Colombo Chief Magistrate, Rashmi Singappuli today (July 26) ordered General Sarath Fonseka to appear before the Colombo High Court on July 29 for the hearing of the controversial 'white flag' case.
The case was filed by the Attorney General against General Sarath Fonseka over his controversial interview to 'The Sunday Leader' newspaper.
The newspaper carried an article some months ago, quoting the General as having said that the defence secretary had ordered the killing of LTTE cadres surrendering with white flags during the final stage of the war.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate also ordered the registrar to remove this case earlier filed at the Magistrate court and to hand over a case copy and all items related to the case to the High Court.
Gen. Fonseka was brought to court in an Army van today.
He is due to be handed over the charge sheet on July 29.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, Deputy Solicitor General, Wasantha Navaratne Bandara said that the Chief Justice has appointed a trial at bar comprising justices Deepali Wijesundara, P.B. Warawewa and S. Z. Rasheem for the case.
