
Twenty years ago, the only person to whom a couple called Homer and Marge meant anything at all was a little-known animator called Matt Groening.
Not only were they the names of his own parents, but they were also the monikers he’d chosen for two of the main characters in a series of short cartoons about to air on a popular comedy programme.
